In August, 2001, ITC entered into Food Industry with packaged and branded food business of ready-to-cook eatables with the brand name Kol with a premium price range. In the beginning it followed the strategy that it will trade at the places where there are less number of competition to built its brand image. Along with the food industry, it has also launched a new brand named, Kitchens of India. In that period there was a great demand for processed food because of increase in disposable income and urbanization resulted in growth opportunities. One of the reason why ITC entered into Food Industry because in 2001-02 the excise duty on budget on processed fruit and vegetables has been brought down from 16% to zero level .Later in june,2002 , to generate more revenues it launched products like staples, snacks and confectionery. With its price strategy and good quality it has established a brand image in the mind of students. Entry to FMCG industry FMCG sector is the fastest growing segment of ITC Limited. It is well established distribution networks in the market. Proctor Gamble, Nestle and Unilever are the best example of ITC largest trading companies. It generates tough competition between the organized and unorganized segments. It targeted to the large market with the lower pricing strategy .It is a single-step buying process with shorter sales cycle. Hence, with quick shelf turnover it generates more profit with less financial investment. In the past decades it has generated a strong growth due to: Employment opportunity to the people at every sector. Urbanization, Altered Lifestyle, Liberalization and increase in disposable incomes. Current plan ITC Limited is popular for its Tobacco brands like India Kings, Insignia, Silk cut, Gold Flake, Capstan, Scissors, Berkeley, Classic, Flake, Navy cut, Flake and Bristol. Today approximately 5 million foreign arrivals visit India compared to 35 million in China. In rural areas it is planning to increase its penetration and farmer services. This year there will be 12% inflation in the food sector of ITC Limited and the cost of raw material will rise by 15-20%, which will adversely affect the FMCG industry. Consumers will purchase comparatively less, then they usually purchase. This will directly hit the growth of the company. LONG TERM SUSTAINABILITY ITC has evolved to a multi-business corporate enterprise from a single product company. Through its innovative strategies it synergizes long term shareholder value growth, which is also enhancing the capital of the society. For example E-Choupal through its sustainable agricultural practices has raised the income of rural areas and enhanced the farm productivity. The company believes in integrating larger societal goals in their business sectors, which will ensure societal benefits are more impacted and scalable. Moreover in future it will build stronger foundations for the sustainability of the company. Due to its sustainable business practices which will likely to lend additional source of competitiveness to ITC in society. Also it invested in training of human resources , intensive skilled development and inculcating a spirit of responsible citizenship among the people. This all will support the company to built a corporation for tomorrow. Strength The ITC companies is one of the Indias biggest private sector companies which is rapidly gaining market share into Cigarettes Leaf Tobacco, Hotels, Paperboards Specialty Papers, Information Technology, Packaging, Packaged Foods Confectionery ,Agri-business , Personal Care, Education Stationery, Safety Matches, Lifestyle Retailing and other FMCG ( Fast Moving Consumer Goods ) products like Mint-O fresh, Sunfeast , Kitchen of India , Bingo! and Aashirvaad .In Indian economy it is the fourth largest sector. It is directly serving nearly to 85000 markets and two million retail outlets. It has a tremendous control over the entrepreneurial energies of management which facilitate change in management, prevent misuse of power. Its turnover is about $6 billion and over $22 billion market capitalization and employs over 26,000 people at more than 60 locations across India. For its growth it is developing a world class portfolio. It provides low cost operations and trading over large domest ic market. Not only that ITC limited in its each business sector it nurture top management team and ensure to be internationally competitive. The Master-chef of ITC is often asked to develop new food concept which help to come over the weakness of the company. It has attracted more customers. Moreover, it is also developing internationally competitive agricultural business by empowering the independent small farmer. Weakness ITC, despite of having a brand name in market, it adversely affecting the health of poor class and responsible for the premature death of the people. This is because 47% turnover is generated from Cigarettes Industry. Moreover 80% profit is also received from Cigarettes Industry. To raise its fund in FMCG sectors the company still depended on the revenues come from Imperial Tobacco Industry. Opportunity ITC Limited has spread everywhere, according to the need of the consumers. It is moving into new and emerging sectors like IT (Information Technology) .With its excellent market strategy it has a strong hold in its each market segment. Its research on the taste of the consumers in East, West and North India and then uses the network to create raw materials for the consumers. For example: The result on research of Atta (which is a popular wheat flour), which is now known for various brand name like Aashirvaad in Eastern market, Aashirwaad MP Chakki in Western market and Aashirwaad Select in the Northern market. ITC personal care products, per capita consumption is the lowest in the world which is offering an opportunity for ITCs Shampoos, Soaps and Fragrances under its brand Wills. ITC is aggressively pursuing opportunities in providing IT solutions like business process outsourcing and e-enabled services in its owned subsidiary company named, ITC InfoTech India Limited. In 2003, when it introduced biscuits with Sunfeast in the market, they were following Britannia, but with their excellent strategy they got hold on the market. Though they manufacture those products which were there in the market, but with such flavours which were never heard in past. Threat ITC has also faced many problems in its Tobacco business such as: Government has banned advertising of its products, Increased excise duty rates of cigarettes, Smoking in public places was also banned. This has increased the sales and position of foreign brands in Indian market. Also, it has compelled ITC to introduce with new business plans. When there is a cut- throat competition in the market, and the situation where they find possibility of profit could be made then: Either they reduce the cost of its products, or sometimes it also produces low quality products at low price, in order to make maximum profit out of it. Or they produce new products and services in the market, to maintain the same relation with their consumers. Due to ban on Cigarettes in India by government has adversely affected the manufacturing and sales of company. This has given opportunity to foreign brands to strengthen its roots in India. Pearl group from Israel, which is an international company is likely to open hotels in India. This will leads to tough competition in the Indian market, which will adversely affect the growth of ITC Hotels. In future this will adversely affect the tourism of ITC Hotels. Moreover, Domestic players are increasing their operations with state of the art of the infrastructure which will adversely affect the reputation of the ITC Limited. Therefore, it has to bring new technologies to remain in the market competition. Political Factors affecting ITC Limited ITC through its Experience, Goodwill and Brand Image created a good networking in market which helped it to bargain with government to modify their regulations. Ban on ITC limited cigarettes, FDI in Cigarettes and no smoking at public places has reduced the purchasing of Cigarettes which affected the manufacturing and sales of ITC Cigarettes business. In September 2004, Government of India put a ban on tobacco advertising. This has increased the sales of foreign brands as they were free to advertise their brands in India. It has compelled ITC not to associate Wills by the brand name of Cigarettes anymore, to save it from being charged for it advertising. Smoking in public places cause harm to the environment as well as the smokers and the people around. It influences teenagers to start smoking at an early age. Therefore in October, 2008, Government decided to put a ban on smoking at public places. It has affected the manufacturing and sales of ITC. In February, 2010 Indian government has taken step to ban foreign direct investment in Tobacco, which shattered the plans of BAT (British American Tobaccos), Japan Tobacco and Altria Group. This has closed the doors for Japans Tobacco Industry to make investments in Indian markets. ITC did not react on the matter because it owes 3/4th of the market share and ban on Tobacco ultimately benefited to its Sales. Economical Factor affecting ITC Limited ITC focus on the purchasing power of the consumer and the market condition created by the Competitor in terms of price, therefore it has maintained a great pricing strategy with an economical pricing range of products. This has created a tough competition in the market. The major competitors of ITC in the FMCG sector are Procter Gamble (PG) and HUL. To remain connected with lower and regular income earning people it sells products in small size packaged with the lower price like Minto fresh, Sunfeast Biscuits. ( What more required ) Sales of Cigarette (in Crores) Years Sales 96-97 102.2 97-98 104.2 98-99 102.2 99-00 98.43 00-01 97.8 01-02 87.8 This shows that there was continuous reduction in the sales of Cigarettes, because of the following reasons: Rise in excise duties. Increasing anti-tobacco campaigns Ban on Advertising. Moreover, ITC had a tough competition with many international brands in the overseas markets. To give them a tough competition it generated high quality, value-priced cigarettes. Socio Economical Factor affecting ITC Limited ITC is an earning source for 5 million people. Due to its goodwill in Cigarettes its brand signifies quality in the minds of the consumers. Because of single minded focus on value creation for its customers, it has built a leadership position through significant investment in quality, product design, manufacturing technology, new innovations, marketing and distribution. In this way it has made availability for long-term market standing. Such a strategic focus on customers has paid handsome dividends in return to ITC. Indian food market is Monopolistic Competitive market where there is large number of sellers in the market. Each firm sells Differentiated products which are close substitutes to one another. Major competitors of ITC Food Industry are Haldirams, Gits , Ethnic Kitchens , MTR and Priyafoods. When ITC introduced Bingo! there was only one player to give a tough competition, i.e. Frito Lay. This strategy has helped ITC to establish its business at a faster pace. Moreover, ITC Bingo is more diversified in flavors then Frito lay in Chips, Biscuits and other Ready to Eat Eatables. This has benefited ITC to be more demanding then its competitor and attract more customers at the same time. Technological Factor affecting ITC Limited IT is diversified into many field . It has made a boom in the market with its Technology (specify properly) of Boost production in the market. Recently, in July 2010 it has launched Classmate Mechanical Pencils also known as Classmate Da Vinci in the field of business of Education and Stationery. To bring advancement in the agri-based Industry, ITC has introduced E-Choupal which directly link rural farmers through Internet which ha brought advancement in agricultural and aquaculture products like Wheat, Soybeans, Prawns and Coffee. With the introduction of Computers and Internet access in the country in the areas of agriculture farmers can now easily negotiate with the sales of their production with ITC Limited. This enables them to carry good farming practices and keep themselves update of the change in mandi prices. The Value Chain This value chain ensures business growth through its efficient value chain. It has restructured the current business process which enhanced the efficient manufacturing or supply chain operations and its customer service availability. Also, with its electric procurement system ITC had enjoyed the cost advantages over its competitors. ITC has realized that to remain in the market competition of food industry, it has to keep innovating new products .Hence, it always keep on bringing new flavors in Biscuits, Wafers and other Ready to Eat and Kitchen of India products. Environmental Factor affecting ITC Limited ITC Limited has made a policy that under its control; they will not employ any person below the age of 18 years in any of its industrial operation. The company as a responsible corporate citizen has decided not to play with the future of children and committed to the protection and welfare of the children below 18 years of age. Due to this ITC has made a reputation in the market. It has earned respect from the general public. Moreover, it will generate more educated labour in the company which will help to produce better output. India is a competitive player in FMCG products due to diverse agro-climatic conditions , it has a strong availability of raw material, which gives advantage to industries in the production process. Legal Factor affecting ITC Limited ITC Legal Aspects for International Trade are the services provided by the institutions and legal experts from the several countries. These are managed through Geneva offices of ITC. Its main objective is to access international trade law with better understanding and resolve disputes. In April, 2003 anti-tobacco law was emerged to review control on tobacco in India affected to the sales of the company. Because of the smoke and tobacco law, the company production was affected. To combat this problem, the company started putting more emphasis on the packaging. It emphasized on the statutory warning and directed all the sellers not to sell the product below 18 years. Future Plan FMCG Sector is expected to grow by 60% in 2010. According to the 2008 estimation there was a rise in the income of the rural areas which has boosted the purchasing power of the people at countryside. In 2010-2011 under Sales Tax Act stock transfers are exempted from levy of tax, due to which stock transfer would be subject to tax under GST system at full rate. It will affect the sales turnover for a minimum of 2.5 times of stock transfers any FMCG sector. In all the ITC products due to the per capita consumption, it is likely to change the mind-set of the consumers. Hence, in the coming years there are possibilities consumers will purchase branded products which will automatically increase the growth of ITC. Following are some future strategies: They will hardly make any investments in cigarettes, because in future there are less possibility of its growth, due to bans on it by Government of India. Also they will use other business sector to provide high visibility of ITC. They will make new ventures in agri-business to expand its business, because likely in future there are possibilities that they could earn more profit in agri-business compared to other sectors. The reason is by their E-Choupal technology they are spreading their roots in rural areas. In FMCG sector, they will introduce low fat chips which will attract more customers towards its brand. CONCLUSION Since, ITC Limited was established in 1910, it has adapted the external environment and has proved to be the most profitable company in the India. Still today after its completion of 100 years it has very good brand image in the market.
Conflict Perspective :: essays research papers
à à à à à The conflict perspective is very apparent in modern day issues affecting the environment. Environmental groups, both government and non-government based like The Sierra Club and the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) are often at odds with industries with conflicting goals such as logging and oil industries. The industries want their right to manufacture products from natural resources, while environmental groups want to protect and preserve these limited natural resources. For example, conservationist groups lobby to industries in the energy field and people in general to reduce and conserve their use of natural resources and to develop alternate sources for this energy. On the other hand, preservationists strive to preserve these resources as much as possible. Various other environmental groups have specific purposes and goals such as eliminating air pollution from automobiles and stopping the dumping of chemicals into ocean waters. The general goal of all o f these groups is to preserve and ensure the existence of all living beings on earth. While this may sound simple or easy, it is far from it. When big businesses like oil companies have billions of dollars and tremendous influences on government, small time environmental groups only get secondary attention. à à à à à The majority of these groups have been started in very recent history and continue in growing force. This is mainly due to growing awareness, as well as growing concern for environmental issues. Despite this, industries have also grown and so has their consumption and exploitation of mother nature. Pollution and waste resulting from the depletion and usage of many natural resources and fossil fuels has plagued the earth recently. Two examples are the growing hole in the ozone layer and the greenhouse effect, which will continue to haunt us in the future. Along with this destruction comes the elimination of various species of animals and plants alike. The dollar sign is the biggest obstacle in combating this and although awareness and protection of Earthââ¬â¢s resources has steadily grown, this conflict is still being won by big business. à à à à à Along with the multitude of private groups trying to win this conflict, the government is also making attempts to do so as well. This fight to preserve and protect mother nature through legislation and activism is being waged by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). Through politics and lobbying by these groups, the government has passed many new laws, rules and regulations to aid in the cause of protecting our environment.

Reflection on My Portfolio Essay -- Personal Narrative Writing
Reflection on My Portfolio Literature has fascinated me from an early age. I was always an extremely active child, yet all I needed to settle down was a good book. The worlds created from the page within my mind were wondrous and amazing. However, I never imagined that I would become an English Literature major in college. Like many others before me, I wasnââ¬â¢t sure what you could do with an English major but teach or write, neither of which I planned on doing. A business or management major seemed much more practical. Despite these misgivings, I knew that I wanted a major that I enjoyed rather than one that was a ââ¬Å"safe bet.â⬠Therefore, when a professor of mine opened my eyes to all of the possibilities, it didnââ¬â¢t take long for me to decide. Now I can confidently say that my English major has given me invaluable experiences and taught me innumerable lessons that will aid me not only in my career life but also in my personal life as well. I have been able to develop my writing a nd creative ability so that no matter where I go or what I do I can make the most of it. I also have the wonderful ability to reflect on my life through examining literature and making connections and reflections in my own life. As I prepare to leave Loras I am confident that my English Literature Major has prepared and fully qualified me for whatever is to come. When it came time to decide which papers to include in my portfolio I was in quite a dilemma. Most of the papers I wrote in my college career were saved electronically. Unfortunately, some technical problems came up and I lost all of these. This setback significantly reduced my options. However, while this hindrance may be considered a tragedy, in reality it turned out to be a... ...ate with an English Literature Major, I know that the Literature has always been a strong theme in my life. Thinking back on me as a child, I see myself stuffing a towel in the crack of my bedroom door so my parents wouldnââ¬â¢t see that the light was on (because I was covertly reading instead of sleeping as I was supposed to). Or looking back to high school, I was voted most athletic, but I wasnââ¬â¢t a typical jock. Rather, I was the student-athlete who carried a book on the bus and read instead of playing cards with the other girls. All of these experiences laid a pattern in my life. Now that I am graduating from college, I see my Literature Portfolio as the culmination of my love of literature; but I do not see it as the end. I know that as I move on in my life, my experiences as a literature major will never leave me and will aid me in everything I do.

Criseyde: Negligence, Manipulation and the Lack of Willpower :: Essays Papers
Criseyde: Negligence, Manipulation and the Lack of Willpower We all know what it is like to be pressured into a relationship. Okay, maybe we don not ALL know what it is like, but most of the general dating population has had this experience. It works in this way: your friend Susan comes to you and tells you that your other friend Jim likes you, you never really thought about Jim in this wayââ¬âbut begin to think that there could be a little chemistry there. Susan loves playing matchmaker. She is persistent and will not stop until she gets what she wants. In the end, you wind up going on a few dates with Jim, but the relationship never really blossoms. This scenario sounds a little like the story about the forced relationship of Troilus and Criseyde, by Pandarus, in Geoffrey Chaucerââ¬â¢s Troilus and Criseyde. The only difference between my real life scenario and the relationship of Troilus and Criseyde is that when Criseyde finally falls for Troilus, which alleviates his ââ¬Ëlovesicknessââ¬â¢, she leaves him for another m an. And, although Susan was persistent, she never stood in the bedroom when you and Jim ââ¬Ëturned off the lights.ââ¬â¢ Criseyde changes her mind just after the reader is informed that Criseyde and Troilus are in love, and Troilus has become a better knight and a better man because of this love. Why would a woman leave after getting so emotionally involved in a relationship? As the text says, ââ¬Å"For she began to turn her shining face/Away from Troilus, took of him no heed,/And cast him clean out of his ladyââ¬â¢s grace,/â⬠(st. 2, 179)ââ¬âCriseyde simply turned her head from Troilus, taking ââ¬Å"of him no heedâ⬠and moving on to Diomede. I believe that Criseyde was unjust in her actions, yet she was forced into the relationship due to two weaknesses that she possesses: her own negligence to the importance of the situation and a lack of willpower. Criseyde is (seemingly) manipulative, yet Pandarus very easily manipulates her at the same time. From the beginning, the reader realizes that Criseyde is not interested in a relationship, but her eccentric uncle does not take not ice.

If identified to formulate solutions or to give recommendations accordingly. 1. What forms of motivation are avai lable to employees of the Dilemma Travel Sir Lankan? 2. What factors motivate workforce most in the Dilemma Travel Sir Lankan? . What role(s) does motivation play on employees' performance in Dilemma Travel Sir Lankan? 4. What is the correlation between motivation and employee performance in the Dilemma Travel Sir Lankan?Understanding the importance of employee motivation Increased Productivity: With motivated employees from an internal or from an external source shows passion for work which in turn provides better performance. If motivation is provided employees will work hard to set and reach goals. Companies that offers challenging jobs must provide a framework that lets the employee know that the management rusts their abilities to perform which gives them confidence to complete their given tasks. This sort of attitudes of the work force brings forth increase productivity which is very beneficial for an organization. Bimodal Bath, 2011) Improved Employee Morale: In order to boos t employee morale continues motivation is necessary. A work force with high morale is ready to take up any challenge without any issue. This high surface team created in the employee's mindset provides added values for an organization with less absenteeism and employee conflicts. (Bimodal Bath, 2011) Increase Loyalty: Increased loyalty is gained by an organization with employee motivation. Recruiting and training new staff is an expensive task for any company therefore a loyal work force is essential to gain a good reputation in the market and to reduce this added expenditure. Chowder, M. (1997),) Better Creativity: The passion towards their Jobs enables employees to express their views and ideas freely. This fact gives them the assurance and the understanding of their important position within the organization so that they can contribute more towards the betterment of themselves that further brings benefits for the company. Enhancing the creative factor is therefore essential and t he manages have to design a motivational structure and a leadership style that facilitates employees in providing new suggestions, ideas and methods of expansion with regard to delivering cost effective performance. (N.D. Baboon, 2011) Individual growth and Improvement A motivated workforce takes up new tasks regardless of how challenging it might be and would provide best efforts in completing them. For this reason further learning and training programs are essential. The environment created within an organization tit regard to completion is also an added motivational factor for employees to increase performance. All these factors comes together in forming expertise within a workforce of an organization. These experts and their efforts must be carefully evaluated and appreciated by given the appropriate appraisal and promotion opportunities.Criteria 1: Out of 40 employees, questionnaire has been distributed to 10 males and 10 females as per table 1. 1 below. 1. 1 IP -Increased Prod uctivity MIME -Increased Employability IL -Incrementally SC-Better Creativity GIG -Individual Growth and Improvement years. Most of respondents are found from the age of 18 ââ¬â 24 range and there are no employees found above 45 years from study area. Table 1. Present the age distribution of employees. 1. BC-Better Creativity 18 years to 24 years category shows tremendous growth of productivity, morale, loyalty, better creativity and individual growth and improvement comparing to other age categories. This category represents teenagers and very young crowd of the company who are mainly working in the operational level and at a trainee level. And according to Abraham Moscow in his Hierarchy of Need, those within this category are preoccupied with higher order needs such as esteem and self-actualization, having had their lower order needs taken care off (Moscow,1943).Criteria 3: A motivated person has the awareness of specific goals which must be achieved in specific ways; therefo re he/she directs its effort to achieve such goals (Nell et al. , 2001). Motivated person has more energy to achieve their specific goals than denominated person. In Dilemma Travel Sir Lankan after observing along the staff categories (Table 1. 3), I have noticed some changes between senior level, tactical level and operational level employees. When productivity and employee morale is considered operational level employees' progression is higher than others.Tactical level employees' shows low values in all the categories. At the same time senior level member are showing progression in individual growth and improvement than others. 1. 3 While assessing above situation, we can identify lack of progression in tactical level employees. This means there are some difficulties in that level and there is less opportunity to move forward from tactical level. Factors that Motivate Employees at Work While considering motivational factors which we discussed earlier, the following is an overall assessment with regard to the employees of Dilemma Travel Sir Lankan.According to Herrings (1959), Hygiene factors relate to satisfaction at work and also e suggest that managers can give their employees more authority to their Job and offer them direct and individual feedback in order to motivate and help employees to connect to their work (Wartime,2007). Productivity, morale, individual growth and improvement are higher than other factors. This means most of the employees are performing well and at the same time they are able to do the work with minimum supervision. On the other hand employee loyalty and their creativity have gone down. This will affect the company growth indirectly hence employees searching better opportunities for their career development opt to leave the company. Dilemma Travel Sir Lankanâ⬠should take necessary actions to build up employee loyalty and their creativity. The Rennin's Liker Theory could be adopted in such instances where it mainly focuses on high performing managers changing their perspective and addressing key motivating factors which enables these frustrated employees to change their own perspective and helps them to be accepted in a ââ¬Ësupportive' group.Findings Forms of motivation available to workers The motivational packages given to the workforce at Dilemma Travel is considerably inadequate. This situation is substantially worse in the operational level. At the actual level it shows similar trend as to the operational level. The senior management however are entitled to professional allowances, entertainment allowances, as some of the added incentives available to them. The room for improvement and career progression is considerably poor at the tactical level.Employees at Dilemma Travel Sir Lankan confirm that if the working environment is conductive they will be motivated to give better performance. Some of them perceive efficient work. As stated by Herbert (1959) the hygiene factors effects and concentrate on workplace satisfaction. Employee Job Performance: The Role of Motivation Motivation being crucial factor as presented by Robert (2005) a manager's Job is to ensure the work done through employee is possible. With regard to Job performance the evidence show that encouragement is crucial and conferred to the workforce who will help them to expand and deliver. Reward for Good Work Done At Dilemma Travel Sir Lankan monitory rewards in the forms of overtime allowances and in form of bonuses are provided as preferred forms of motivation. According to Broom (1964) ââ¬Å"people are motivated by how much they want something and how likely they think they are going to get itâ⬠It is advisable for the management to reward employees by understanding their desires and structuring their incentives accordingly.Leadership and fellowship Effective leadership is a personal role that requires the blending of motivational, strategic and management skills to align focus, energy and drive whilst creating a culture which encourages individual thinking and attainment. Ultimately leadership is about pushing ideas and thoughts forward, bearing responsibility and aspirations to bring out the confidence of others. Leaders are required to have greater project leadership and influencing skills than in the past.Summary of some key leadership skills: Managerial ââ¬â keep track of progress against targets and take action on slippage Trustworthy ââ¬â speak honestly and openly and expect the same from others Aware ââ¬â understand each individual's abilities, limitations, motives and drivers Influential ââ¬â use vision, argument and important stakeholders to sway opinion Visionary ââ¬â know what needs to be achieved and how to go about achieving it Inspirational ââ¬â create and bring to life an image of how things can be ASCII (1998) have narrated that ââ¬ËManaging People' a Critical Role for Every Manager, ND when it comes to managing people, all managers must be concerned to some degree. The leaders at Dilemma Travels must focus on the following, Transparent and innovative system of recruitment and induction of employees. Better and extensive training facilities and chances. Programmed / designated on Job training and courses. Strategies implemented to provide mental relaxation within the environment. Audit and control system is standardized. The ââ¬Ëtime management' in private organization is implemented. Working under innovative concept of efficiency / effectiveness. Flexibility in ideas and procedure implementation. New Technology is given preference. Effective and prompt means of communications are used. Personal welfare and efficiency of employees leads to better out put. 16. Probability of misuse of power. At Dilemma Travels, the leaders are mainly chosen by the qualities and traits approach which states certain people have inherited characteristics or personality traits therefore limited training is provided for the managers wit h regard to managing people. This poses a number of drawbacks as situational factors and employee behavior within the organization is ignored. Almost all of the managers eve an autocratic behavioral style of leadership that often neglect employee input towards decision making. Many tactical level staff believes that a democratic approach by the managers would be beneficial for employee motivation and for the organization as a whole. An argument can be made for an autocratic method at the senior managerial level where quick decisions must be made and team agreement is not always necessary for a successful outcome. With Linen's three participatory leadership styles conclude that the most effective style is democratic and extensive alternative styles lead to revolution and denomination. Understanding the situation and formulating contingencies are some key skills that a leader should consider. The three types of forces (situation, follower, and leader) that were identified by Attainment and Schmidt in 1958, understood and used properly could benefit the managers at Dilemma Travels. The main problem that I see is the lack of training provided to the people who considered being leaders of the company. The level of action centered leadership that is needed mainly in the operational and tactical levels of the organization is inconsistent that forces employees to show denominated behavior to work with different managers. When assessing the qualities with the transformational method a leader is able to examine and search for the needs and motives of others while seeking a higher agenda of needs. Acting as the change agent and a visionary a transformational leader is capable of inspiring people and with a clear vision is able to inject enthusiasm and energy. At Dilemma Travels it is ideal to adopt this method of leadership as transformational leaders show integrity, and they know how to develop a robust and inspiring vision of the future. They deviate people to achieve th is vision, they manage its delivery, and they build ever stronger and more successful teams. However, managers must often need to adapt different styles to fit a specific group or situation, and this is why it's useful to gain a thorough understanding of other styles as well. A method must be developed at Dilemma Travels in order to provide this knowledge to the managers with a structured training programmer that will enable them to use these theories for the betterment of the organization. Organizational culture ââ¬â the ââ¬Å"personality' of an organization that guides how employees think and act on the Job ââ¬â is central to the values, beliefs, inter-personal behaviors, and attitudes to stakeholders that determine how the organization does its Job.Culture is a key factor not only in achieving organizational goals, but in attracting and keeping desirable employees, creating a positive public image, and building respectful relationships with stakeholders. In his seminal 19 92 work entitled Organizational Culture and Leadership, Edgar H. Scheme, Professor Emeritus in the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, offered a definition of what he called ââ¬Å"an empirically based abstractionâ⬠. ââ¬Å"Organizational cultureâ⬠, he said, is ââ¬Å"a pattern of shared basic assumptions that was learned by a group as it solved its problems of external adaptation and internal integration.Culture is important because it shapes: What the organization considers to be ââ¬Å"right decisionsâ⬠What employees consider to be appropriate behaviors and how they interact with each other within the organization How individuals, work groups and the organization as a whole deal with work assigned to them The speed and efficiency with which things get done The organizationâ⬠s capacity for and receptiveness to change The attitudes of outside stakeholders to the organization In short, an organizationâ⬠s culture can be s upportive of ââ¬â or hinder ââ¬â the implementation of new initiatives and the achievement of its overall goals. Does the organizational culture at Dilemma Travels need a change? As highlighted by the study many employees at Dilemma Travels are unhappy with the working conditions and the environment. To solve this issue the best possible way is to start at the core framework of the organization which is its culture and move on to the leadership styles and employee motivation. When an organization is faced by a changing marketplace or regulatory environment, or has identified the need for a shift in strategic direction, the implementation of a new technology, or the introduction of new processes, the established culture may impede progress unless it, too, is changed. For that reason, the success of major organizational change initiatives are almost always dependent on internal cultural changeâ⬠Edgar H. Scheme. Circumstances change Stakeholder expectations The demographic s of the organization change New technologies are deployed A proactive method must be adopted at Dilemma Travels in order to bring this hanged. A step-by-step top down approach could be beneficial for the organization in this regard. Design and Build phases of implementation Visioning session(s) with key stakeholders and consultation assessment (performance against plan) Leadership coaching & action planning Team renewal (team-building) Change readiness Identification & enrolment of change agents within the organization Identification of impacts of new technology & processes on individuals agent training Employee Workshops Implementation stage Executive briefings on the initiative Change leadership plan Communication planOrientation session for project team members Training plan for team members Change leadership training Team building sessions Leadership alignment The deliver and operate face Workforce transition support including related HER policies & programs training performanc e evaluation compensation reward and recognition career development and planning Skills gap analysis Change The management should ensure that communication process should flow in all directions, upward, downward, in parallel to reach outsiders results. For the operational level staff providing added rewards along with their monthly alarm would be an ideal method to increase motivation. The poorly structured working schedule for all the level of employees is another issue that needs to be addressed. Identifying employees living condition, traveling methods, non-work related commitments and responsibilities an arranging possible methods to create a better scenario is another contributing factor to increase motivation.Creating new Job opportunities which will help the current employees with regard to career progression is one of the essential steps that could be taken to keep the expertise within the company Leadership needs assessment for improvement. For improvement of behavior skill and traits of personality to perform better leadership roles. Positive reinforcement methods must be taken with regard to new innovative ideas. At the present stage an employees efforts to contribute new ideas to a certain department or the company itself is constantly met with an indulgence but a pathetic approach by the senior management. (Negative Reinforcement) This contributes to discouragement of making further suggestions and may even consider of leaving the job.In an instance, by comparison if an employee is encouraged to assisting in the placement by providing new ideas (Positive Reinforcement) would benefit and generate better ideas. When considering distribution of rewards the management must understand that each employee idea of an ideal incentive would be different from another. It is prudent for the management to reward workers according to their hearts desires than providing them with something that may not please them. Which intern creates a denominating factor beli eving that they are not properly compensated for their efforts The research shows that many employees of Dilemma Travel Sir Lankan would

Baseball Compare And Contrast
Baseball and Football share some qualities, but they also contrast each other in many ways. Baseball requires you to have skill, knowledge, and think on the spot, however Football requires you to be fierce and get ready for the next down or else. Baseball you have to throw, hit, catch, and run around the bases till you get to homMr. Crabtree e plate, and get a run. while, in Football you have to throw or handoff, put trick plays in the offense, run, tackle maybe even a big hit so that person goes to the hospital, and go 100 yards down field to get a touchdown, to get 6 points. Some people think of Baseball as ââ¬Å"OH Yeah, lets go run, and catch balls. Oh wait and also hit them. â⬠, well no in baseball you have to keep practicing just like any other sport to overcome your opponents, and train to become better, than the person in front of you. Baseball is the sport that you need to know the scenario that is occurring, and what is your next move. You need to understand your game plan find a approach towards trying to hit the baseball.Baseball would require you to understand the sport which is quite simple. Football is the sport that you need to know the game plan, the next play the will get your opponent so that you can gain more yards or get a touchdown. In Football you need tremendous strength to be able to overcome your opponent , or just simply get in there heads. Each Football has their strengths to be able to overcome their opponents either strength, speed, or a game plan it could possibly be that a team as all of these qualities.Football gives you the attitude that you have to be mentally tough and be able to destroy someone when you tackle them. Football has the reputation of having to be ruthless and tough. On the contrary, Baseball gives you the attitude that you have to mentally tough and be able to have a plan of how you will overcome your opponent. Baseball has a reputation of Americaââ¬â¢s old time sport that you can enjoy which is more ple asurable, than getting tackled every play jeopardizing your body. Baseball and Football contrast each other more than the compare to each other.Football is more horrendous, while baseball pleasant so you can enjoy the game instead of watching your back at all time. In both of the sports you need skill, strength, speed, and mentally tough. In both of these sports they push you to your limits an arise different types of competition towards others and or teams the you want to compete with. In Baseball you can become very quick because there isn't much pressure on you, but in football the pressure is shared through the whole team to to work together or else nothing will work.

Beloved Paper: Supernatural
Beloved Essay: Supernatural A major part of the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison is the case of someone being haunted. The supernatural element pervades the novel. The characters are haunted by the past, because of the choices theyââ¬â¢ve made and the things theyââ¬â¢ve done. All of the characters were affected by slavery, but Sethe, Denver, and Paul D are haunted by the past that stretches and grasps them in 124. Belovedââ¬â¢s character is an obvious use of the supernatural. Sheââ¬â¢s like a vampire that sucks the soul, the heart, and the mind of her mother while draining the relationships that exists between Denver with Sethe and Sethe with Paul D.Sethe is the most dramatically haunted in the book. She is the one whose past is so horrible that it is inescapable. How can she escape the past when it is physically apart of her? She is the one who was permanently scarred by slavery both literally and figuratively. She has scars left from being whipped that she calls a ââ¬Å" treeâ⬠. She describes it as ââ¬Å"A chokecherry tree. Trunk, branches, and even leaves. Tiny little chokecherry leaves. But that was eighteen years ago. Could have cherries too now for all I knowâ⬠(pg. 16). She is the one went through slavery and escaped it.She decided to murder her own child rather than allow her to be forced into slavery, because she had suffered so much from it. It is inclined that her past is represented on her back, meaning that it is something that is behind her, something she cannot see but knows that is there. Sethe knows that the past has attached itself to her but the haunting of it has not stopped growing. Sethe doesnââ¬â¢t seem to recognize that the haunting is physically with her the whole time, because it drains the life out of her. When Paul D enters Setheââ¬â¢s life, he discovers a haunting of Sethe almost immediately. He walks into 124 and notices that there is an unwanted spirit in the house, ââ¬Å"It was sad. Walking through it, a wave of grief soaked him so thoroughly he wanted to cryâ⬠(pg. 9). Paul D stopped Belovedââ¬â¢s haunting, in her spirit form, the first time by screaming ââ¬Å"God damn it! Hush up! Leave the place alone! Get the Hell out! â⬠(pg. 18). But Beloved is Setheââ¬â¢s greatest haunt and it is when Beloved arrives in physical form that Sethe is forced to turn around and confront the past. The reversal of power from Sethe to Beloved is when Beloved started to become like a parasite to Sethe. The parasitic aspect of motherhood is amplified in this novel, like the way the fetus is a parasite to the motherââ¬â¢s uterus, sucking the life from and continues to nourish its body by taking the motherââ¬â¢s body and nutrients. Beloved is the supernatural representation of this. Her mind and actions speak as a child not an adult. She loves her mother and wants her all to herself like a little two year old child. She even loves Denver like a little sister, but she is also jealo us of her and the relationship she has with her mother and the fact that Denver survived and she didnââ¬â¢t.Beloved claims Sethe ââ¬Å"I am Beloved and she is mineâ⬠(pg. 210). A typical two year old will do anything to get what she wanted, so Beloved ââ¬Å"made demands. Anything she wanted she got, and when Sethe ran out of things to give her, Beloved invented desireâ⬠(pg. 240). Beloved has taken so much from Sethe that Setheââ¬â¢s mental capacities decline because she has given up any thought of life other than focusing on taking care of Beloved and nothing else. Her own guilt had made it so easy for her to be entrapped by Beloved. The idea of Beloved leaving would crush her, as a result her greatest fear was ââ¬Å"that Beloved might leave. That before Sethe could make her understand what it meant-what it took to drag the teeth of that saw under the little chin; to feel the baby blood pump like oil in her hands; to hold her face so her head would stay onâ⬠¦ â⬠(pg. 251). Sethe didnââ¬â¢t do anything, canââ¬â¢t do anything except ââ¬Å"those times when Beloved needed herâ⬠¦ she sat in the chair licking her lips like a chastised child while Beloved ate up her life, took it, swelled up with it, grew taller on it.And the older woman yielded it up without a murmurâ⬠(pg. 250) Towards the end of the novel, Beloved switched from being an innocent child who just wanted to be with her mother, she became an evil deceitful child who wants revenge from her mother for killing her. Setheââ¬â¢s guiltiness made it that much easier for her to do so. When Paul D first showed up at the doorstep of 124, he seemed aware of the necessity of confronting the past in order to escape its grip. He tried to help Sethe forgive herself and she should feel safe about venturing ââ¬Å"insideâ⬠her painful memories. When Belovedââ¬â¢s arrival forces Sethe to face the past and the memories began to consume her completely. The only way Set he can escape Belovedââ¬â¢s hold is only with the help of those around her. Denver tries to keep Sethe alive; the community helps to expel Beloved; Paul D supports Sethe by telling her that she, not her children, is her own best thing. The only way they can possibly enjoy the future together is to deal with the past. The supernatural aspect played a big role in the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison. The characters are haunted by their pasts, from the choices that theyââ¬â¢ve made and the things that theyââ¬â¢ve done. The characters wanted to forget the past and leave it all behind, because ââ¬Å"this is not a story to pass on. â⬠The narratorââ¬â¢s warning is intended to remind us that it is not easy to keep that history in our memory, but it is not helpful for us to remember it either. Forgetting the past could be done if there is nothing that will remind the person about it, but how can it be forgotten when the past is haunting you in the physical form? Sethe was luc ky the people around her helped her snap out of it and continue on with her life.
